Michael J. Cregan posing with his medals and a Winged Fist embroidered emblem, presented by Charles J. Dieges. The emblem is an intricate two-color chenille embroidered applique with a a felt backing, sewn onto a silk banner topped with a red, white and blue satin sash. The inscription reads: "The first emblem worn by an Athlete, Who at that time won first prize at the open games of the Pastime A.C., Aug. 31th, 1901, Compliments of Charles J. Dieges." It includes the emblem of the Pastime Athletic Club.
M.J. Cregan, of the Greater New York Irish Athletic Association (before they changed the name to the Irish American Athletic Club), took first place in the 440 yard run at the Pastime Athletic Club's games on August 31st, 1901, held on their grounds at East 66th Street and Avenue A in Manhattan. Founded in 1892, The Pastime A.C. is the 3rd oldest private men's club in the U.S. and still exists today in Syracuse, New York.
